These earrings are classics of New Orleans jewelry. Their design is inspired by a Vieux Carre ( French Quarter ) wrought iron balcony-- specifically by the railing of the Pontalba and Alamonaster buildings on either side of Jackson Square. A detail from that railing is pictured below. The Baroness Micaëla Almonester de Pontalba was the owner of the building, and that strong woman was the guiding light behind the design of the building and the railing, when they were constructed between 1849 and 1851. Today the balcony is a design icon of New Orleans. The silver fleur d lis within this design preserves the patterns of the past.
Sterling Silver Fleur d' Lys earrings, hanging, silver wire design, very lightweight.
