Our Louisville Fleur d’ Lys Pendent was inspired by a Fleur we found on the robes of a statue of Louis XVI— the last King of France; he ruled from 1774 to 1793. American affection for Louis was so great after his support during the Revolutionary War, that the city of Louisville was named after him. In Louisville we found a beautiful statue of Louis, carved in 1827 by Valois. It was gifted to the city in 1967, by its sister city in France, Montpellier, and now stands in front of City Hall. The beautiful robes Louis wears in this marble statue are covered with a particular Fleur d’ Lys design we had never seen anywhere else. Thus inspired, we created our Louisville Fleur d’ Lys pendant, in sterling silver. Have a look at the pictures of the statue and see how closely we modeled our fleur after the one on the robes of the statue. This is a royal fleur! And you will enjoy sharing the story of its origins with your friends: when in Louisville stop by to see the original.
