The design of this silver brooch is closely modeled, on the most famous piece of cast iron railing in New Orleans' French Quarter. If you look closely at the railing of the Pontalba building, in Jackson Square, you will see the letters A and P within a swirling lace motive. This motive, and much of the building was designed by the Baroness Micaela Almonaster de Pontalba in about 1848. It is her monogram, A and P, within the heart of the design. Our design preserves even very tiny aspects of the original, including the rounded shape of the letters.
